We have seen people doing all sorts of crazy things with their JDM rides and it made me sad to see honestly. Why would you tape numbers to your cluster or have a cheat sheet taped to the a pillar on your vehicle? Treat that thing right!!!
I knew there had to be a better way, and some quick searching and thoughts led me to this unit we have been using for over two years now without issue.
Yeah you can live without it depending on your GPS app of choice, but It has a bright screen day and night, you can get color options to suit your ride (the colors on the unit don’t change, you have to buy a different model for different colored lights) and it seems pretty darn accurate.
How do we know it’s accurate? Well, we first compared it to our normal boring cars. We also ran a compare test against our phone GPS speed readout – it was matching! Lastly, we then found some of those construction speed radar signs and compared it to that. It was either the same or off by 1mph.
We have used these on several different vehicles now, in the winter chill, summer heat, long trips, etc. without issue. I am pretty sure this is the clean easy way to have a speedometer that shows MPH on your JDM ride.
This is what we bought, and its going strong over 2 years in without issue: https://a.co/d/3A8Qlm0
P.S. No – you DON’T need to buy this! There are tons of free GPS Speedometer apps for iPhone, Android available in the app stores. Some have tons of great features and no ads… take a peek for a great free option. If you have an old clunker phone, you could even use that as a dedicated car Speedometer unit.
